Among all of the products that have been created in Japan, sake is one of the oldest and most fascinating ones. Considering sake has been existing for more than 1500 years already, it has become closely intertwined with the culture and the lives of Japanese people today. Currently, there are over 1400 sake breweries located in various places in Japan. There are many sake breweries which has a long history of 100, 200 or even 300 years, and carrying their own unique philosophy and specialty, constantly striving to create their ideal sake.
You can have a glass of sake by itself, but pairing it with food works very well too. It is a truly heartwarming drink that can be enjoyed at both hot and cold temperatures.
There are several secrets hidden within sake. Did you know that sake used to be a special drink that could only be produced in Japan until recently? What is TOHOKU?
All of our sake is made in Tohoku.
The Tohoku region is the name of the northern part of Honshu, largest of the four main islands of Japan. The region consists of six prefectures, named Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Akita, Yamagata, and Fukushima. You can still find Tohoku's rich nature like the sea, mountains and forest, and enjoy the change of seasons as much as you like. Because Tohoku is blessed with beautiful nature you can find delicious cuisine with fresh ingredients, and we also have a characteristic culture festivals and craft. The people are kind, peaceful and driven, and Tohoku is a place that carries the spirit of “omotenashi”: Japanese for hospitality.
Out of all the regions, Tohoku produces most of the rice that is such an important part of Japanese meals. And during winter, it is very cold and it usually snows, covering most areas in white. We think this environment is perfectly suitable for producing sake.
Sake from Tohoku has been appraised for being beautifully delicate and having a soothing flavor, and Tohoku is an incredibly popular area amongst Japanese sake fans. In recent years, Tohoku has been winning the most prizes during a contest of brewing a new sake, that has existed for over 100 years in Japan.
There are wonderful sake places and breweries all over Japan, but we would really like you to know about Tohoku and try tasting our sake. It goes without saying that it is delicious, but you may as well be reminded of Tohoku's quiet nature and the driven and hardworking craftsmen and women when tasting our sake.
