A brewery has a brewing’s sake history for 150 years in Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture, at the base of Mt. Zao.

 

 

Shiroishi City is a place that became the stage of history at the end of the Edo period.

Shiroishi Castle stands majestically in the center of the town, and the town is dotted with waterways and Kura (storage-houses) of merchant.

There are various attractions such as the natural beauty of Kamasaki Onsen and Mt.

Zao, as well as traditional culture and specialties such as kokeshi dolls, Japanese paper(washi), and umen noodles.

 

Zao Sake Brewery makes the best use of the natural blessings of Shiroishi, such as contract-grown local sake rice, underground water from the Mt.Zao, and the cold winter winds from Mt.Zao.

 

 

Originally, it is a talented brewery that has won the gold prize more than 20 times in the past at the Japan Sake Award, the largest sake contest in Japan.

In recent years, Mr. Kiichiro Watanabe, the 5th generation brewer, and Mr. Shinya Otaki, “tou-ji” which is a master of brewery, have taken the lead and are blowing a new wind into the Zao brewery.

 

Mr. Watanabe thought that more careful management was necessary to improve the taste of sake, so he made drastic changes in management policy, such as drastically cutting mass production and switching to small-lot production of their sake.

 

In these past few years, when I talked with local sake fans in Miyagi, I always heard the word “Zao Brewery’s sake has greatly evolved year by year.”

 

In one of Japan's largest commercial sake event, "SAKE COMPETITION 2018,",

“Zao Junmai-shu K” won 3rd place in the Junmai Sake category.

 

Furthermore, in the same contest, Touji Shinya Otaki was awarded as the No.1 Touji among brewers under the age of 40.

 

 

In recent years, attention has been increasing from all over the country as a promising brewery that has won numerous awards in many contests in recent years.

創業1873年。

蔵王連峰の梺、宮城県白石市にて150年、酒造りを行う蔵。

 

白石市は幕末の歴史の舞台となった場所。

町にの中心には白石城が荘厳に佇み、町には水路、商家の蔵が点在し、

当時の趣を残す美しい城下町だ。

鎌崎温泉・蔵王山麓が織りなす自然の美しさや、

また、こけしや和紙、うーめんといった伝統文化・特産品など、さまざまな見どころもある。

 

蔵王酒造は、地元産酒造好適米の契約栽培米や蔵王連峰の伏流水、

冬の蔵王颪の寒風など、白石の自然の恵みを活かし、

その良さを最大限に利用した酒造りを行っている酒造。

 

もともと、国内最大規模の全国新酒鑑評会において、過去20回以上金賞の受賞歴がある実力蔵。

そして近年、5代目蔵元である渡邊毅一郎氏と、蔵王酒造専任の杜氏である大滝真也氏を

始めとする若手蔵人が中心となり、若手の蔵人が蔵王酒造の伝統を継承しつつ

若々しい感性で日本酒業界に新たな風を吹き込んでいる。

 

渡邊氏は、酒の味をより高める為には、より丁寧な管理が必要と考え、

これまでの大量生産を大幅にカットし、

少量生産切り替えるなどの大胆な経営方針の変更も行いました。

 この数年、宮城で地元酒通と話すと必ず聞くのが、

“蔵王酒造のお酒はものすごく進化している”というワードだ。

 

それを証明したのが、日本最大の市販酒イベント「SAKE COMPETITION 2018」だろう。

純米酒部門にて、蔵王K純米酒が3位を受賞。

さらに、同コンテストで、杜氏・大滝信也氏は全国の40歳以下の造り手の中でNo.1杜氏として受賞された。

 

更に近年は、多くのコンテストで数々の受賞を近年受賞している期待の蔵として

全国からも注目が高まっている。
